About Us
Our History
Hoërskool Vorentoe started off as Rossmore Junior Hoërskool, and on 17 January 1938 it officially became Hoërskool Vorentoe in January 1951.
The school structure was developed over the years to meet the increasing demand of learners wanting to attend the school. Most of the school, including its classrooms, sports fields and general buildings, was upgraded to meet these needs. The class of 1953 was the first to matriculate from the high school.
In line with the 1994 political changes in South Africa, Hoërskool Vorentoe welcomed its first learners and teachers of colour. In 2005 the first classes with English as the medium of instruction were introduced and by the end of 2009 the last classes, with Afrikaans as a medium of instruction were phased out.
Currently, under the leadership of the principal, Mr Maconi, and his School Management Team, Vorentoe aims to achieve new heights.

Principal Address
Vorentoe started off as Rossmore Junior Hoërskool, on 17 January 1938. The idea of a junior high school was new to South Africa; the format taken from the USA. Initially, only the main building was available. The original intention of the school was to offer value-based and quality education to the locals in this area. Later, the school evolved into a fully-fledged high school.
At the dawn of democracy, the school started to develop a new identity as learners of colour were accepted into the learner-fold. Our school aims to help learners grow into fine human beings who can face the challenges of the present world. This notion is excellently captured in our vision statement that reads, “Ensure that all learners at Hoërskool Vorentoe are equipped holistically in: Academia, Culture, Sport, and Values that will enable them to become globally competitive.” The biggest challenge society faces today is to prepare our learners for a globalized world.
On the other hand, while preparing the young minds for the global market, we often ignore that each child is an individual and has special skills. The educators at Hoërskool Vorentoe endeavour to encourage each child to develop within their special field of interest. We realize that each learner does not have the same talents and each one will achieve success differently. With reference to our Vision Statement, we accommodate this notion by our established four pillars: Academia, Culture, Sport, and Values. We encourage all learners to participate in all school activities to harness their full potential honestly and do their best in all fields. Success is within your reach.
Surely, with the blessings of the Almighty and the co-operation of all, the school will continue to grow in every way in the years to come.
Yours sincerely
Mr SD Maconi
